Interactive mannequin simulates high risk deliveries as a training tool

Niagara Health has a new tool to train staff in the Women and Babies program.

The St Catharines site recently bought a SimMom, to allow staff to practice mock codes and train for emergencies.

The interactive mannequin helps simulate high risk deliveries and post-delivery events.

SimMom has the ability to talk, breathe, bleed, have seizures, and push as though she's giving birth.

"By simulating these emergencies with the SimMom, it can increase confidence levels, identify areas for improvement, and improve teamwork and communication," says Debbie Audet, Advance Practical Nurse. "All of which improve patient safety and outcomes."

The Pediatrics department has also bought a SimBaby that will be used in the training.
