Niagara Health Expands Critical Care Response Team Hours at Niagara Falls Site

The service is now operating 24/7 in Niagara Falls

Niagara Health is making some changes to the Critical Care Response Team (CCRT) service at the Niagara Falls site.

The hospital system says the service is now being provided 24/7 at the site.

The CCRT service allows practitioners to work with hospital staff to respond to the needs of patients who are seriously ill.

These specially trained nurses also follow up with patients to make sure those recently transferred out of critical care don't need to return to the ICU.

"Expanding the CCRT to our Niagara Falls site has increased patient safety and quality of care," says Elayn Young, Director, Critical Care and Cardiology, Niagara Health.

"Early identification of deteriorating patients allows the response team to stabilize them on the ward or facilitate a rapid admission to the ICU. In addition to enhancing patient safety, CCRT’s have been shown to increase staff engagement and satisfaction."

It was originally offered at the St. Catharines site, and expanded to the Niagara Falls hospital in November.
