Jim Diodati says domestic tourism to Niagara Falls is at pre-pandemic levels, and international tourism is trending upwards
The mayor of Niagara Falls says he thinks it'll be a banner year for tourism in Niagara Falls, despite what some polls might suggest.
A recent Nanos poll suggests about 38 percent of Canadians plan to spend less on their summer travel plans this year, with cost being the main concern.
However, Diodati tells us he's not worried.
"Our numbers are fantastic. We're up in most areas, and this is going to be a banner year for Niagara Falls. So despite what the study says, the actual empirical results are much different. People maybe aren't traveling as far, but they're definitely lining up to come to Niagara Falls."
He says Canadian tourism to the city is already back to pre-pandemic levels, and he's excited to welcome more Americans this year.
"Now that they can get into the country with simply their passport, we're seeing a lot more U.S. receipts, we're seeing a lot more license plates from all over the United States, and they're very very excited to be back because their dollar goes so much further, and many of them haven't been here in several years."
Diodati also notes international tourism to the city is expected to hit pre-pandemic levels next year.
