Mike Strange and Victor Pietrangelo will walk 1,000 kms along the Bruce Trail to raise money for Box Run

A couple of Niagara Falls councilors are raising money for childhood cancer research.

Starting tomorrow, Mike Strange and Victor Pietrangelo will embark on a 30 day trek to raise money for Box Run, which raises money for research labs working to cure childhood cancer.

The pair will walk 33 km a day, following the entirety of the Bruce Trail.

Strange told us a bit about how the money raised will be used.

"Half the funds go to childhood cancer research, a steam cell research lab at McMaster, and the other half goes to Ronald McDonald House of South Central Ontario."

The pair will run through difficult terrain, and Strange says the pair have encountered some challenges during training.

"It's a very dangerous run, because when you're looking up to see where you're going or where the Bruce Trail leads you, yuo're not looking down. That's when you catch a rock or a tree root, and sometimes you flip and fall down. We've come across a lot of injuries, and I know it's going to be rough."

The trek will end with a celebration at Oakes Park on September 9th.

The pair are trying to raise at least $150,000 for the cause.

Since the charity started in 2012, the Box Run has raised over $350,000 for childhood cancer research and support.
