Niagara Braces for Strong Winds

Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for south Niagara.

Meteorologist Gerald Cheng says a Colorado low is sweeping across the province. We're in the southern end of the system, so it's going to be very windy tomorrow afternoon and evening.

"It could go as high as 100 kilometres per hour, especially along the lakeshore of Lake Erie. It is very important to be weather aware at this time."

Cheng says the southern half of the Region will get the worst of it.

"Usually along the lakeshore the winds are much stronger. With the southwest winds coming along Lake Erie, that's why the south Niagara Region will get the strongest winds. Further north though, the winds are still quite strong."

Cheng says north Niagara could be in for gusts up to 80 kilometres per hour. A special weather statement has been issued for that area.

Strong winds can easily toss around loose objects and cause power outages.

Cheng says we could also be in for some rain tomorrow, so make sure you drive carefully.

The strong winds should diminish overnight.
