Request for Toronto-bound ramp to 405 off QEW rejected by province
A Niagara Falls city councillor voicing his displeasure the province is not considering a Toronto-bound entrance to Highway 405, off the QEW.
Councillor Victor Pietrangelo noted during last night's meeting the province's belief traffic can simply go to Thorold Stone Road and Stanley Avenue is not good enough.
"That's really the main problem with this issue... why are you sending all these vehicles off the highway, only to get on another highway, when they're both 405 highways. I mean, I do appreciate we actually got a response," he says.
Mayor Jim Diodati said they can look into approaching the province on this matter, after the city received a letter from Transportation Minister Caroline Mulroney.
It indicated studies done by the province showed no need.
However, Niagara Falls' CAO Jason Burgess doubts any study done. "I don't believe they've actually done that. They believe there is no issue, but this council believes there is an issue, there is undo traffic being put inappropriately on those roads."
Councillor Victor Pietrangelo added council's beef is sending traffic into the city to access the 405.
