Paul Calandra says more land could be added or removed

The province's new Housing Minister says more Greenbelt land could be removed, pending a review of the protected area,

Yesterday, Premier Doug Ford announced a review of all parcels of Greenbelt land, as well as sites removed for housing development last year.

He said the previous government changed the Greenbelt 17 times, and never consulted with anyone.

He also says there isn't enough land to build homes for the 5 to 6-million people coming to Ontario.

Paul Calandra adds he has asked the ministry to create parameters for the review, which could mean more lands are added or removed.

He also notes he'll make a number of changes in housing policy including revising the use of Ministerial Zoning Orders, which override local bylaws.

The review was announced after former Housing Minister Steve Clark stepped down amid scathing reports from the auditor general and the integrity commissioner.

The reports indicate certain developers were favoured when decisions were made in regards to which lands would be removed.
