New fareboxes are being installed on NRT vehicles to allow for the transition to a single, new local transit pass

Public transit riders in Niagara Falls will soon notice some changes.

New fareboxes are being installed on Niagara Region Transit buses and paratransit vehicles.

This will streamline all fareboxes in the region to have a single, magnetic stripe technology.

This will allow the company to issue a new local transit pass in areas that already have bus and paratransit services.

Niagara Region Transit says it'll take about a week to install the new fareboxes.

During the transition, passengers will have to show their pass to the driver.

The new local transit pass is now available at the Morrison Dorchester hub in Niagara Falls.

Riders will still have the option to pay with cash, pre-paid ride passes through the mobile transit app or with a physical transit pass.
