Netflix Cracking Down on Password Sharing

Password sharing fees will be charged starting early next year.

Netflix is cracking down on users sharing their passwords.

In its latest letter to shareholders, the company says it will start charging password sharing fees in early 2023.

Users will be able to share their account with family or friends by creating "sub accounts" or "extra members."

Each sub account would get a profile, login and recommendations based on their personal taste.

Netflix also says users will be able to transfer their profiles to new accounts, in order to help people who share accounts to get one of their own.

While the company hasn't announced an exact date or which regions will be affected by this change, it has already begun its crackdown on password sharing in Costa Rica, Peru and Chile.
