Ministry to Provide Update on Water Testing on Site of Former GM Property

Meeting scheduled for December 5th.

St. Catharines residents will soon get answers regarding water testing on the former GM property on Ontario Street.

On December 5th, the ministry of environment, conservation and parks, will provide council with an update on the situation.

Two years ago, water testing found elevated levels of PCB were leaking from the property into a municipal stormwater sewer.

St. Catharines MPP Jennie Stevens tells us she has been working with Environment Minister David Piccini to make the meeting happen.

"I think that the minister is going to come to the table, and hopefully have the results in a transparent, comprehensive review on the table, so the people in the community feel at ease."

She also says she's pleased to see the province and the ministry stepping up on the issue.

"The ministry and the provincial government have a responsibility to make sure that this site is cleaned up, so that the city can finally remediate on the property."

The meeting will take place at 6:00 p.m. on December 5th and is open to the public.

You can also watch it on the city's YouTube channel.
