Medical Officer Appeals for Mask Wearing

Dr. Moore stopped short of suggesting a mandate, adding his job is to inform

A strong appeal from Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health that everyone mask up and be up to date with vaccine status.

Dr. Keiran Moore revealed this morning how quickly the cold, flu and COVID-19 viruses can impact young children, as the rise of cases has been evident in hospitals.

"RSV, influenza, and COVID-19 symptoms can all have varying degrees of symptoms, from minimal to severe.  It is important for everyone to avoid spreading it to others if they are sick," he stressed.

Dr. Moore added he is not imposing a mask mandate as his job is to inform and educate the community.

He admits, though, it can be difficult to get everyone to comply without mandating masks.  "A cold, or minor respiratory symptom, a sinus infection to you, could be RSV, or influenza, to younger members of our community, and cause significant respiratory distress in them, so that's the key message."

Dr. Moore feels a mandate is the furthest he'd have to consider, as most people have cooperated over the last two years.
