Suspect faces numerous charges, including forcible confinement and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

A Niagara Falls man has been arrested after Manitoba RCMP helped Niagara Regional Police on a case.

Around 10:55 a.m. on August 6th, the RCMP received a request from the NRP to stop a vehicle that was being driven by a man from Niagara Falls.

According to the RCMP, police were told a 48 year old woman, also from Niagara Falls, was possibly being held against her will and may hve suffered an assault.

The suspect was spotted on Highway 16 east of Neepawa, but kept driving after officers tried to conduct a traffic stop.

A spike belt was deployed a short distance away.

The vehicle went over the belt, and was eventually forced to stop on a nearby residential street.

The 45 year old driver fled on foot, but the 48 year old female stayed in the car.

She wasn't physically injured.

A search of the vehicle turned up about 4,800 unmarked cigarettes.

The next day, police received a tip that the suspect was staying in a motel in Brandon, Manitoba.

He was arrested without incident, and remanded into custody.

The suspect, whose name has not been released was charged with the following:

  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Forcible Confinement
  • Flight from Police
  • Operating a Motor Vehicle while Prohibited.

The RCMP continues to investigate.
