Long lines at Niagara Falls Service Ontario Location on MPP's Radar

MPP Wayne Gates calling for action from Ford government to reduce long lines.

Those long lines that seem to never end at the Service Ontario location on Thorold Stone Road in Niagara Falls was the focus at Queens Park today.

Niagara Falls NDP MPP Wayne Gates told Question Period today that the location is understaffed and overwhelmed with people waiting in line for hours.

"Seniors, residents living with disabilities, people without a computer, and people new to our province are standing in lines 30 to 40 people deep in the winter, often for over 2 hours."

He said the situation has gotten so bad his office recently learned of a neighbour to the location opening their home to allow seniors to use their washroom.

Gates calls the funding agreements for the Service Ontario locations broken and is asking the Ford government to step in and improve wages.

"Wages are inadequate in privately run facilities, with new employees only making $16 an hour and experienced employees with multiple years of experience only making $18 an hour. In a publicly run facility, these workers make $24 an hour.  The funding agreements for these Service Ontario locations are quite frankly broken." he said.
