Local MPP calls for Provincial Takeover of Greycliff Manor

A Niagara Falls MPP is calling for the province to take over management at Greycliff Manor retirement home.

MPP Wayne Gates was given several disturbing photos from the family of one of the homes residents.

The resident died of non-COVID related causes, and it's reported that in his final days, he lay in bed surrounded by a filthy room that contained urine and feces on the floor.

The family alleges that they had to clean the room themselves prior to saying goodbye.

Gates called the situation 'disgusting' and said that a change needs to be made.

"We have spoken with Niagara Region Public Health and the Retirement Home Regulatory Authority (RHRA) on this issue, something must change, people don’t deserve to live like this. We know that the homes owners’ had their license revoked, but that doesn’t take effect for months, and people are suffering now. We can’t turn our backs on the people living in homes like these."

Greycliff Manor is a for-profit facility owned by the Martino families.

While the Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority has revoked their license for this and five other homes they own, the revoke takes effect in June 2021.
