Local Man Charged with Animal Cruelty

Police say 2 dogs found in storage container in Fort Erie

A 31-year old Fort Erie man is facing animal cruelty charges.

Niagara police say they were called Sunday afternoon to a storage facility on Garrison Road, after receiving a call about someone locking two dogs inside a storage unit.

Upon arrival, police could hear barking, and that the dogs were in distress.

They cut the lock, and found the dogs not able to move around due to the unit being full, as well as lack of food and unclean water.

Police saw the suspect, Quinby Leland Zachariah-Diaz on Wednesday, riding a bike on Garrison Road, but he refused to stop when asked.

He rode another three kms before being arrested.

He is charged with 2 counts of willfully causing pain or suffering to an animal, and 2 counts of causing injury or damage to animals, and had a bail hearing yesterday in St. Catharines court.
