Labour Minister Monte McNaughton is speaking about the need to inspect farms and agricultural businesses.

Earlier this week, the province announced that in anticipation of the arrival of migrant workers, hundreds of inspectors will be sent to farms and agricultural businesses in order to ensure proper COVID-19 safety protocols are being followed.

McNaughton says that enforcement measures are being increased for those who don't follow the rules.

"Our labour inspectors can ticket supervisors and managers and business owners and corporations up to $1000 on the spot. For serious offences, the fines can be up to 1.5 million dollars."

McNaughton says that most farmers and agricultural businesses are doing a good job of following the rules, but there is always room for improvement.
