Ontario's integrity commissioner looking into whether ethics rules were violated
The province's integrity commissioner plans to launch an inquiry into the Ford government's decision to develop housing on parts of the Greenbelt.
J. David Wake says he's acting on a request from incoming Ontario NDP Leader Marit Stiles, to determine whether Housing Minister Steve Clark violated any ethics rules.
Stiles has asked the commissioner to look into what she calls "curious timing of recent purchases of Greenbelt land by powerful landowners with donor and political ties to the Ontario PC Party.''
She cites media reports claiming some developers bought that land over the last several years, despite the premier previously saying there wouldn't be housing developments there.
In November, Clark announced the province will remove about 7,400 acres of land from the Greenbelt and add acres elsewhere, to accommodate the building of 50,000 homes.
Both Clark and Premier Doug Ford have denied tipping off developers prior to the announcement.
Wake says there is not enough evidence to investigate the Premier.
