Mayor also excited for businesses looking at Welland during 2024, including Linamar by year's end
Welland's Mayor staying focused on addressing the housing crisis as part of his agenda into 2024.
Frank Campion says the city set up an Affordable Housing Advisory committee, which came up with a grant system that was put into action at this week's council meeting.
"We dedicated a piece of property for that purpose, that the city owns, and now it's been dedicated to be part of that program. We going to start seeing some good in-roads into providing, I guess, the best word is, attainable housing."
The mayor is also excited about the economic sector, including Linamar setting up a plant.
Campion also says they're continuing with a $1-million plan to bring doctors to the city, paying 10 doctors $100,000 each to make the move to the city. "We've got 2 so far, and I'm looking forward to meeting with some further physicians, and others who are trying to locate here. So, we've got a bunch of people... doctors, physicians on the line I think we'll be able to attract."
The mayor adds they're getting requests from companies wanting to set up along the canal, so they're joining forces with Thorold, Port Colborne, and the Hamilton-Oshawa port authority.
