Gord Singleton was Determined Leader: Son

Gord Singleton has passed away from prostate cancer

The son of a well known Niagara businessman, and former Olympian and cyclist champion, is remembering his father as determined, a leader, and someone who tried to do things right.

In an exclusive interview with River/MoreFM news, Chris Singleton says his father Gord, who owned Niagara Battery and Tire, considered the people who worked for him as family.

Gordon Singleton has passed away from prostate cancer at 67.

Chris spent yesterday visiting the employees at every store.  "They make every location run properly and run smoothly, and he really valued that and really cared for everyone that was there.  So, I just felt that was the right thing to do, to just speak with them."

Chris says Mayor Jim Diodati reached out to his mom, adding public arrangements are being made considering Gord's impact on the community.

Chris has also been talking to one of his father's close friends, Niagara Falls city councillor Mike Strange, another former Olympian.

"Dad was a big supporter of all of his foundations that he did in Niagara Falls, so we've been speaking with Mike on some things we could do.  It is something that everyone should be checking, and getting a jump on this disease."

Gordon, a Niagara Falls native, was the first Canadian cyclist to win a world championship in 1982, among many other championships.
