The Ministry of Labour says the company failed to protect an employee who died on the job

General Motors has been fined over $325,000 after a deadly incident at the Glendale Avenue facility.

In October 2021, two workers were replacing a pneumatic cylinder on a milling machine.

One of the workers was on top of the machine, and fell off, landing on the concrete floor that was about three metres below.

The province says the employee who fell was not wearing protection, and died from their injuries.

The Ministry of Labour says the company didn't take precautions to prevent the incident.

The company pled guilty in court last week.

In addition to the fine, a 25 percent victim fine surcharge was also issued.

The ruling comes after another worker at the same plant was injured on the job in January.

He was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
