Premier Doug Ford is calling for backup.

He’s has requested federal reinforcements from the Public Health Agency of Canada and the military to help in the battle against COVID-19 in our long-term care homes.

“Everything is on the table and we will leave no stone unturned. Our frontline heroes are working around the clock, many working longer days and extra hours. They need a rest and they need support.

He says they will be deployed to five priority homes across the province to provide operational and logistical assistance.

Ford says it’s also going to be a while before everything gets back to normal in Niagara and across the rest of the province.

He was asked about the possibility of reopening Ontario’s economy for the May long weekend this afternoon.

He says the decision would be entirely based on the health and wellbeing of the province and it would not happen all at once.

“There is never going to be one date where we just reopen the economy. We’re going to open it up with a trickle and just let it flow from there and constantly measure.”
