Ford Pushing for Speedy Resolution in St. Lawrence Seaway Strike

Talks to resume tomorrow

Premier Doug Ford and Quebec Premier Francois Legault say the federal government should get involved if a deal can't be quickly reached between St. Lawrence Seaway management and the union representing workers.

They add a continued shutdown of the seaway could hurt the economy, and they want to avoid a repeat of the B.C port workers strike that happened in July.

The two sides are returning to the bargaining table tomorrow, along with federal mediators.

The seaway runs from Lake Erie to Montreal, and shipped about $16.7 billion worth of cargo last year.

According to Unifor, the union representing the workers, about 360 workers are on strike, fighting for higher wages.
