Flood Watch Issued for Niagara

The NPCA says water levels will be elevated through the week

A flood watch is in effect for Niagara.

The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority says water levels are already elevated after the area received about 30 to 60 mm of rainfall during the weekend.

Another 20 to 30 mm of rain is expected over the next three days.

The NPCA says there could be localized thunderstorms, which may result in more rainfall.

While water levels in creeks and rivers are below critical flood elevations, the levels will increase due to the weather in the forecast.

Low-lying flood prone areas may experience flooding, and residents are advised to stay away from creeks and rivers.

Motorists are reminded not to drive on flooded roadways, because there could be hidden dangers.

The notice is in effect until Thursday at noon.
