Family Day Activities in Niagara

Family Day is Monday, February 20th

There will be lots of activities in Niagara this Family Day long weekend. 

Below is a list of activities taking place in Niagara this long weekend. 

The list will be updated as necessary. 

Welland

The Welland Arena will host skating from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Monday. Admission is free with the donation of a non-perishable food item. 

At the Welland Museum, kids will have a chance to do crafts, get their face painted, and see a magician. 

 

Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls History Museum

Dinosaur Detectives: Kids will have a chance to learn about dinosaurs and discoveries from the last few years. Sessions will take place on Friday at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. You can register for the 11:00 a.m. event here or the 1:00 p.m. event here

On Monday, the museum will host Earth Rangers. Kids will get to enjoy live animal shows at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Gale Centre

The Gale Centre will offer public skating from 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Admission is free

MacBain Community Centre

Drop-in basketball, badminton, table tennis and racquetball lessons will be available on February 17th. As well, the indoor playground will be open from noon until 8:30 p.m. for kids aged 4 to 12. 

On Family Day, the centre will be open from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Families will be able to enjoy a magic show, art workshops, outdoor fire pits, swimming and drop-in sports.

Port Colborne

Vale Health and Wellness Centre

  • Free skate Friday, Feb. 17 from 12 - 2 p.m. and Monday, Feb. 20, 2023, from 12 - 2 p.m.
  • Walk around the track from 6:30 a.m. - 10 p.m.

 

YMCA

  • Family-friendly activities will be offered from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., including family gym activities and an open swim

 

Port Colborne Public Library

  • Check-out books, board games, DVDs, and more from the Port Colborne Public Library, Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Families are invited to drop by to try the Library of Things. For all ages. No registration required. Free. Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
  • Enjoy Story Time with Shelly Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. and Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m.
  • Stop by on Saturday afternoon from 2 - 4 p.m. to create a small piece of chalk art to take home. For all ages. No registration required. Free.
  • Take the time to learn about Black History. The Port Colborne Public Library celebrates Black History Month with book displays and an online carousel of suggested books on the library’s website.

 

St. Catharines 

Kiwanis Aquatics Centre

  • Swim to Survive program: This program is geared towards children aged five and older and their families. Participants will learn how to roll into deep water, tread water for one minute and swim fifty metre. Reservations can be made here https://anc.ca.apm.activecommunities.com/activestc/home


Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre

Port Weller Community Centre

  • Families can pre-register for activities  like Zumbini, corn hole, ladder ball and family bingo.

 

St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre

  • Under the theme of All Fun and Games, the museum will be transformed into a carnivalstyle destination where families can join in activities and learn about the types of play enjoyed by people in the past at carnivals and circuses. 
  • There will also be behind-the-scenes tours throughout the day. 


St. Catharines Farmer's Market

  • Visit the St. Catharines Farmers Market on Feb. 18 for some family fun at the discovery table. The market will be open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Don’t miss the free crafts and a special basket of fun raffle happening between 9:30 a.m. and noon.

 

Pelham 

Meridian Community Centre

  • Between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., families can enjoy activities like face painting, drop-in family gym time, laser tag, skating and more. More information is available here.

 

Thorold

Frank Doherty Arena

  • The City of Thorold is hosting a free Family Day skate from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Free popcorn and hot chocolate will be served. 

 

Port Robinson Community Centre

  • A pasta dinner fundraiser is taking place. Attendees can arrive at 4:30 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. Dinner will include penne pasta, meatballs, sausage, salad and dessert.
