Family Day Activities Around Niagara

From a virtual Polar Plunge to Snowga! There is something for every member of the family to do

In Port Colborne:

-Enjoy a free skate at the Vale Health & Wellness Centre on Family Day from 1:30 -3:30 p.m.

- To celebrate Ontario Heritage Week, the Port Colborne Historical & MarineMuseum has created a GooseChase scavenger hunt for you to enjoy! Spend a safe and fun afternoon discovering our local heritage with the Humberstone Hunt scavenger hunt. Details on how to play will launch Feb. 21st on the museum's social media accounts, so be sure to like and follow them.

-Once again the city is partnering with Special Olympics Ontario, encouraging residents to PORTicipate virtually in the Polar Plunge from Feb. 14 to Mar. 21, 2022. To register,
for information about fundraising, and for creative ways to take the plunge virtually like filling your bath tub with ice or running through a sprinkler, visit their website. The city is
encouraging Port Colborne residents who participate to share their plunge videos on social media by tagging the City of Port Colborne and using #plungeON. The city is not
hosting an in-person plunge this year, but looks forward to 2023.


Niagara Falls:

-The city is hosting a S’more Fun Day in the park. Head to Firemen's Park February 19th from 11 am to 3pm for a fire pit, s’mores, hot chocolate, children’s activities and more! 
The event is free of charge

-Stop by any Niagara Falls Public Library location and  pick up a Family Day Fun Pack filled with activities, recipes, and free books to enjoy with your kids on Family Day. Love the kit? Be sure to tag the library in a photo of your kids enjoying it.

-Organizors with the Seasky International Light Show are pulling out all the stops this Family Day long weekend. There will be live music, food vendors, fire pits and of course hundreds of beautiful hand made lanterns along a 1.2 kilometre lighted trail for you and the family to enjoy. The Niagara Falls Park has a special Family Day weekend rate as well with children under 12 free of charge from February 18th to the 20th . -The Niagara Falls History Museum has created a special Scavenger Hunt across the city for your family to complete together. Hop in the car between Feb. 18th and 21st and participate in the hunt by printing out the PDF or using the GooseChase app. 

- The Gale Centre will have free public skating. Sessions will begin at 11:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 2:30 p.m., and will last one hour and 15 minutes each. Online registration is required, and anyone 12 and older will be asked to show proof of vaccination. 


St. Catharines:

-Family Day Leisure Swims Leisure swims will be running throughout the day from 7:15 a.m. to 9:05 p.m. Check out the leisure swim schedule at Kiwanis Aquatics Centre and visit stcatharines.ca/activestc to make a reservation.

-Public Skating. Lace up your skates and join in on Feb. 21 at Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre. Hour-long time slots are available starting at 12 p.m. Numbers are limited to 40 participants per session. You can make a reservation at stcatharines.ca/activestc.

- Try Snowga in the Park. Join a 45-to-60-minute class, depending on the weather. Bring a yoga mat, dress in layers and prepare to have some fun. Meet at 12 p.m. outside Russell Avenue Community Centre

-Get ready to join in a Nordic pole adventure walk along the Welland Canal by viewing the City’s Nordic Pole Walking Video. Participants will bundle up and meet in the Lock 3 parking lot at 10 a.m. Nordic poles are available to borrow.

-Go on a Winterquest. Join residents of St. Catharines for a city-wide scavenger hunt. Download the Goosechase app and enter game code 3MV899 to start completing missions all over the city at outdoor art installations, recreational trails, parks, community rinks, and more. The game is open until Feb. 22. The top two teams will be awarded exciting prize packages.


Welland:

-On Family Day head to Chippawa Park in Welland for an outdoor skate on the pond. Bring your skates to enjoy your favourite Canadian winter activity and relax by  fire tables with a warm beverage and snack. 

- Have some fun with the family around the city or in your neighbourhood. Get creative and bundle up for these fun family activities. Build a snowman, create a snow angel, take a picture with a hockey stick and more.

Top three win prizes

- Go to the Welland Main Arena for an indoor Family Day skate. There will be a designated ‘Learn to Skate’ area with skate aids and bumpers. And, there will be a ‘Play Area’ where you can try out Ringette.
The Welland Optimist Club will be handing out a voucher for a free hot dog and a free drink to every child who attends the Family Day Skate.


Grimsby:

-Family Day Skate on all three pads at the Peach King Centre. Up to 60 skaters at a time in the indoor rinks and 30 skaters on the outdoor rink. Take home activities, Hot Chocolate and S ‘Mores.

 

Beamsville:

Free PA DAY skating Friday and Saturday for Family Day weekend at the Fleming Centre, plus free popcorn and cotton candy for every registered skater. Skating is from 12:00-2:00 and 3:00 -4:30 on Friday and from 5:30 to 7:00 on Saturday.

 

Pelham:

- From 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., free family events will be held at the Meridian Community Centre, including family gym time, a learn to play pickleball clinic, magic shows with Scoop McCoy and two free family skates. 

- Starting Saturday, your family can win Pelham Prize Packs, including Pelham Bucks, by playing the virtual Family Day Scavenger Hunt game. To play, download the GooseChase app and search game code GDPP9Q to find family-inspired search missions.

-An information table will be set up at the Community Centre to collect food items and donations as part of the Rotary Club's drive in support of Food4Kids Niagara.  Receipts will be issued for monetary donations.
