Falls to be Lit in Honour of Queen's Platinum Jubilee

City of Thorold also announcing Jubilee lighting

Four days of celebrations honouring Queen Elizabeth's 70 years on the throne get underway today in the UK.

The Queen is expected to join members of her family on the balcony of Buckingham Palace later today as 70 planes fly overhead.

The 96 year old is the first British monarch to serve for seven decades.

To mark the occasion Niagara Falls will be illuminated in purple over the next four days.

Meantime, Thorold City Hall will be illuminated purple every night until Monday.

Mayor Terry Ugulini says “This year marks Queen Elizabeth II’s 70th year of service since she assumed the throne. For most people, that’s the majority of their lives. We proudly light City Hall in honor of Her Majesty and to commemorate this truly magnificent milestone.”
