Former Sabre busted with fake vaccine certificate

San Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane has been suspended without pay for submitting a fake COVID-19 vaccination card.

The former Buffalo Sabre will also have to forfeit close to $1.7 million of his $7 million salary to go toward the Player's Emergency Assistance Fund.

The league also says another investigation into allegations of sexual and physical abuse by his estranged wife could not be substantiated.

Kane was cleared earlier on an accusation made by his wife Anna that he bet on NHL games including some against the Sharks.

Kane has apologized for submitting the fake vaccination card.

In a statement he writes, "During my suspension, I will continue to participate in counseling to help me make better decisions in the future."
