DSBN Passes 2021/2022 Budget

The DSBN has passed their budget for the upcoming school year.

The budget comes to over $522,000,000, which is more than $22 million higher than last year's budget.

This year's budget focuses on COVID-19 recovery for staff and students, as well as academic programs and supports.

About 70 teachers are expected to be added within the board's schools, due to an expected increase in student enrolment.

The projected enrolment is 39,250 students, which is a 3.71 percent increase from the previous year.

The DSBN is also receiving an additional $153,000 for mental health services, which will be spent on programs such as professional learning for educators and collaborating with community health providers for students needing intensive support.

The budget also includes $100,000 for the Try-A-Trade Program, which allows grade 7 and 8 students to explore careers in the skilled trades.

The DSBN is also devoting $65,000 for the Tutors in the Classroom program, which allows post-secondary students to tutor children in grades JK-6.
