Tested in reading, writing and math
Elementary students attending DSBN school are scoring higher marks than the provincial average.
According to data from the Education, Quality and Accountability Office, grades 3 and 6 students ranked higher than average in reading, writing and math skills last year.
Grade three students topped the province by 12 percent in reading, and 13 percent in writing and math.
Meanwhile, grade six students showed similar results, beating the province by 13 percent in reading and writing, and 12 percent in math.
"We are very proud of our students’ results. Elementary results are not only above last year’s, but also above provincial averages by as much as 13%. The data we receive from EQAO and OSSLT also provide additional insight into what students need, in both language and mathematics. Our staff always support each student and we now know that these strategies paid off last year and will continue to deliver results that have become part of the DSBN’s well-earned reputation," said Warren Hoshizaki, Director of Education.
However, the results were not as positive for high school students.
Grade nine students were 2.4 percent lower than average in math, and grade 10 students were 1.2 percent higher for the literacy test.
