Diodati says new hospital will draw in healthcare professionals to Niagara Falls.

Jim Diodati is running for another term in the mayor's seat.

We spoke to Diodati, who says if he's re-elected, health care will be a major priority.

"People want to make sure they're getting good health care, and there's a struggle now," he says. "Lots of people are without doctors, and I think we're going a long way toward addressing this with a new hospital, which is going to draw in a lot more health care professionals to Niagara Falls."

Diodati says his other priorities include the University of Niagara Falls, the new cultural centre and farmer's market, and the new theatre.

Earlier this year, Diodati told reporters he had no intention of seeking another term, due in large part to challenges such as cancer and the pandemic.

However, he says he changed his mind because he had goals he wanted to achieve for the city.

"I had a couple of challenges this term. I ended up with cancer and lost the better part of the year to that, and then two years to COVID. So a lot of things that we were working on with the city ended up going on the backburner. That's why my campaign's slogan is 'let's finish what we started.'

We'll have more this week on the Niagara Falls mayoral candidates, and you can tune in Monday night to hear the results of the election.
