Councillors Honoured for Cancer Run

Mike Strange and Victor Pietrangelo endured a month on the Bruce Trail, and raised over $50,000

Over $50,000 raised for cancer research and Hamilton's Ronald McDonald House by two Niagara Falls city councillors.

Mike Strange and Victor Pietrangelo conquered a grueling month walking and running the Bruce Trail raising money, enduring sore feet and getting lost.

Councillor Strange honoured his colleague at Tuesday's council meeting, who refused to quit.  "The bets weren't on Vic a couple of times, because of his feet and other stuff he was going through, and I remember them saying that about me too, saying that's impossible.... why don't you turn the impossible and make it possible, especially for what these children are going through... hats off to Vic, because he was a champ out there."

Councillor Tony Baldinelli, who helped them along, applauded them for ignoring his suggestion they stop a day to rest.

They also saw people from Niagara Falls at various times.

Pietrangelo reflected at council.  "I've never really raised money for non-profits before, but, the older I get, the more I realize that when you have worth causes, you need a champion out there to step forward and to do that kind of stuff, and really, that's Mike."

Mayor Jim Diodati applauded them for choosing this, whereas people fighting cancer don't have a choice.
