Concerned Residents Pack Health Care Meeting

MPP Wayne Gates is encouraging more meetings like this

A Niagara area MPP is very pleased with the passion at a packed community meeting last night on the state of health care in Ontario.

Wayne Gates tells us people want to know where health care is going, and encouraged groups like Niagara Health, which was there, to do the same types of meetings.

"To reach out to the residents, so they can continue to have confidence in the health care system, continue to say 'Listen, the residents don't think this is the best way of doing things'... the residents of Niagara have to have a say."

He adds one issue repeated was the Ontario government capping wages of health care workers, and how does the province get more doctors and nurses into the system.

Concerned citizens, Niagara Health, paramedics and a doctor from Toronto all showed up.

He adds public health must prevail over private.  "There's going to be lots of fightback, there's going to be lots of talk about how we best deliver health care, so that all the residents, wherever you live, have access to health care, whenever you need it in a timely manner."

The MPP says private is for profit, which can lead to underfunding and staff shortages.
