City of St. Catharines Looking to Plant 100,000 Trees in Ten Years

City staff asked to create plan to plant 100,000 trees in ten years.

St. Catharines city council wants to plant more trees over the next decade.

During last night's meeting, Councillor Kevin Townsend set forth a motion asking staff to come up with a plan to plant 100,000 trees in the next ten years.

While the motion passed, fellow councillor Greg Miller says staff needs to be realistic when creating the plan, as other levels of government have previously failed to reach such tree planting goals.

At the moment, the city has a goal of increasing its urban tree canopy to 30 percent by 2030.
