Report shows investment needed for certain St. Catharines city assets, particularly corporate fleet and fire services
A St. Catharines city councillor is calling a report on the condition of city assets a bad news presentation.
GM BluePlan Engineering revealed the city will be short millions of dollars to keep assets up to par over coming years.
Joe Kushner said this will give leverage when asking for provincial help. "We are very poor in three areas... number one, the corporate fleet... #2, fire services... and I think the biggest deficiency is in parks."
The engineering firm added St. Catharines is on par when compared to other cities.
However, Councillor Bill Phillips noted current investment. "I'll use fire services as an example... we're just building a new fire station, as you know, following that there's probably going to be another one built on the West end... we're talking about replacing our Division One fire hall."
The engineering firm acknowledged with anticipated fire service investment over the next 5 years, that rank will improve.
The city did score well on the condition of its buildings, facilities and cultural investments.
