Charges Laid After Crossing Guard Hit by Vehicle

Hamilton man arrested

An arrest has been made after a crossing guard was hit by a pickup truck last month.

On September 5th, the victim was hit by a Ford F150 on Carlton Street near Haig Street.

Police say the Ford swerved to avoid a crash with a GMC Sierra pickup truck that made an abrupt left turn northbound onto Haig Street.

On October 1st, officers charged the GMC driver, a 22 year old from Hamilton, with the following offences:

Careless Driving Causing Bodily Harm S. 130(3)
Fail to Remain S. 200(1)(a)

The crossing guard, a 79 year-old woman, sustained serious injuries and spent several days in hospital.

She is now recovering at home.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1024233, reference NRPS incident 23-99854.
