Ghostbusters director passed away over weekend

A sad day for fans of Canadian producer-director Ivan Reitman.

Born in Czechoslovakia and raised in Canada, Reitman made his first major impression as the producer of “National Lampoon’s Animal House” in 1978.

From there, he directed Bill Murray in two successful comedies, Meatball and Stripes, but it was Ghostbusters that cemented his career.

Rietman was raised in Toronto but attended McMaster University where he made short films and met future stars Martin Short, Eugene Levy, Dave Thomas, Andrea Martin and Rick Moranis.

After school he hired Dan Akroyd to work on a comedy he was producing at a local TV station and they became lifelong friends.
