Canada's Chief Public Health Officer Warning of Jump in COVID-19 Cases

Dr. Theresa Tam says there are early signs of a fall resurgence of COVID-19 cases.

Canada's top doctor says she's preparing for "worst-case scenario" COVID-19 variants.

Dr. Theresa Tam told the House of Commons health committee today that there are early signs indicating a resurgence of the virus this fall.

She says the Public Health Agency of Canada is keeping an eye on the evolution of Omicron variants, which she says are the most common subvariants in Canada.

She is urging the public to get bivalent booster shots to protect themselves.

Tam says in the worst-case scenario, variants find a way to sidestep the effectiveness of vaccines.

Locally, Niagara Health is reporting a jump in patients with COVID-19.

There are 63 patients with the virus, 33 of which are being treated primarily for COVID-19.
