Becomes first female hockey player to ink major deal
Mikyla Grant-Mentis has become the first woman to ink an $80,000 a year contract.
While the deal has not been officially confirmed both TSN and Associated Press are quoting anonymous sources close to the team who have details of the contract.
The 23 year old from Brampton played two seasons with the Toronto Six.
The salary offer comes on the heels of the Premier Hockey Federation’s decision to increase the salary cap for teams to $750,000 each.
The league is also set to expand from six to eight teams, with a franchise to be based on Montreal and a second U.S. location.
