Brock Political Expert Predicting Republicans Will Win House of Representatives

Americans casting ballots today in midterm elections.

As Americans head to the polls today for the midterm elections, one local expert is predicting a big change to the House of Representatives.

Paul Hamilton, Associate Professor of Political Science at Brock University, says he thinks the Republicans will be able to snag a majority in the House of Representatives.

He says if that happens, former President Donald Trump may take advantage of the opportunity, as rumours of a return to politics continue to circulate.

"I can definitely see him try to capitalize on the Republican win...I think he's going to claim that his interventions have helped the Republicans solidify their House representation."

Trump has teased a "big announcement" in Florida next week, with many experts predicting he'll run for president again.

Hamilton also notes he doesn't think the election results will have a huge impact on Canada, though it may spur discussions about the Keystone XL pipeline.

"The one area that could possibly be an issue would be the Republican's commitment to domestic energy independence. So, I think you may see demands in Congress for the Keystone pipeline to start up again. But Biden has been opposed to it, so we'll have to see what happens."
