Niagara Parks will do the $1.25-million repair job in 2 phases, starting near Peace Bridge
Expect to see construction start this summer repairing the breakwall and trail in Fort Erie along the Niagara Parkway.
David Adames is Niagara Parks CEO, and tells us the $1.2-million work will start this summer, lasting to the fall.
"So, right across from Mathers Arch park is the bulk of the work... we're going to be doing the work in 2 phases. About $600,000 will be spent this year, we'll start repairing the breakwall from about the Peace Bridge, heading south."
He adds the damage was done by severe winter weather, and they weren't able to do repairs over a number of years due to finances.
Niagara Parks is paying the $1.25-million bill. "We're a self-funded operational enterprise with the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport. So what that means is the dollars are coming from our revenue producing operations, so there are no tax dollars involved."
He adds they'll soon be looking for construction companies to bid on the work.
The work is expected to take about 2 years to do.
