Brantford Man Charged in Grimsby Collision

Two car occupants rescued by Good Samaritans.

A man is facing numerous charges in connection to a crash in Grimsby.

Around 8:00 Saturday morning, emergency crews were called to North Service Road near Olive Street. 

A car collided into a tree and caught fire. 

Good Samaritans removed the occupants and extinguished the blaze before first responders arrived. 

The occupants sustained serious but non life threatening injuries. 

Police are commending the good Samaritans for their actions, noting they likely preventing life-threatening injuries. 

Officers say the driver, 25 year old Maxwell James McKay of Brantford, faces several charges, including the following: 

  • Impaired Operation of a Conveyance Cause Bodily Harm CC
  • Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance Cause Bodily Harm CC
  • Take Motor Vehicle Without Consent CC
  • Possession of a Prohibited Weapon CC  
  • Possession of a Schedule One Substance (Cocaine) CDSA

McKay has been released from custody, and a court date has been scheduled in St. Catharines. 

Police are asking anyone who was in the area on July 9th between 7:45 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. to review any CCTV or dashcam footage they may have and contact police at 905-688-4111, option #3, extension #1009023.
