Body of Man Who Drowned in Niagara River Found

The body of a man swept away in the Niagara River earlier this month has been discovered.

Around 5:00 p.m. on August 1st, police were called to the Niagara Glen in the area of Niagara Parkways near Whirlpool Road.

Officers discovered the body of a Toronto woman, who was later pronounced dead in hospital.

Investigators discovered a man in his 20s also entered the water and tried to help the woman, who was having trouble in the current.

Police say on August 5th, a member of the public found the man's body while he was fishing on a boat in Lake Ontario.

Canadian Coast Guard and NRPS Marine Unit vessels were brought to the location, about 10 kms north of Niagara-on-the-Lake between the Welland Canal and the Niagara River.

The body was sent to the Centre of Forensic Services in Toronto, and investigators found it was the man who was pulled into the currents on the Civic holiday long weekend.

The identities of the 22 year old woman and 27 year old man are not being released, and detectives say there's no evidence to support foul play.
