Apartments to go on Old Imperial Oil Site

City of Welland having site on Lincoln Street cleaned up, for affordable housing

The City of Welland is cleaning up an old Imperial Oil site on Lincoln Street, making way for apartment buildings.

Director of Planning Grant Munday tells us Niagara Cultural Heritage Holdings bought the site, and plans to put in affordable housing with about 100 units.

"The main floor would be office space for the Welland Heritage Council, which helps with new arrivals, new people coming from other countries to Welland, and helps them with settling," he says.

He adds the work is in conjunction with Rankin Construction.   "They are currently building 2 3-storey 15 unit apartment buildings.  Approximate cost of construction is about $20-million, and the great news is that the city is getting the property cleaned up."

He says plans for this construction started around 7-years ago.
