All-Clear Given After Police Investigate Reported Hostage Incident in St. Catharines

Multi-unit apartment building near James and Raymond Street evacuated after police receive report of alleged hostage incident involving a weapon.

Niagara Regional Police responded to a reported hostage incident in downtown St. Catharines this morning. 

Around 10:30, officers evacuated residences within an apartment building near the intersection of James and Raymond Street. 

Investigators say the Canine Unit and Crisis Negotiators were also called to the scene. 

Officers were able to communicate with the people within the suspect unit, who exited peacefully. 

Further investigation revealed there was no hostage situation or threat to the public, and police cleared the area around 12:10 p.m.
