Train service to resume 365 days a year.
Year-round weekend GO Rail service is coming back to Niagara Falls.
Premier Doug Ford was in the city for the announcement, and was joined by Transportation Minister Caroline Mulroney.
Weekend service, which was originally introduced in 2019, will resume on October 15th.
The service will include two round trips each Saturday and Sunday between Union Station in Toronto and Niagara Falls.
We spoke to Mulroney, who says the move will provide a boost to Niagara's tourism industry as it recovers from the pandemic.
"It's designed to support Niagara's billion dollar tourism industry," Mulroney says. "The demand is there. We're seeing people wanting to travel more and explore Ontario and Niagara Falls, and we want to make sure that they have a reliable, easy, convenient service to get them there."
Niagara weekend trips will be equipped with special bike coaches for cyclists who wish to travel along the Niagara River corridor.
Before the pandemic, about 12 million visitors came to the Falls each year.
