He's just one of several groundhogs to take part in the yearly ritual

It's official... we can anticipate an early spring, according to a variety of groundhogs.

Wiarton Willie didn't see his shadow, so he didn't retreat back to his burrow, meaning an early spring.

Shubenacadie Sam, who lives in Nova Scotia, and Punxsutawney Phil, who's in Pennsylvania, also predict early spring.

Groundhog Day is part of a tradition rooted in European agricultural life, marking the midpoint between the winter solstice and the spring equinox.
