Welland Rewarded For Home Construction

Provincial government handed over $1.7-mill, after the city exceeding its goal of building homes

Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Matthew Rae, was in Welland today, announcing $1.720,000 in funding through the Building Faster Fund.

This money is a reward for the city exceeding its 2023 housing target.

Welland began construction on 868 new units last year, exceeding its 2023 target by 176%.

Mayor Frank Campion expressed his appreciation, adding it's important that growth pays for growth, so that it does not fall on the city taxpayer.

Housing Minister Paul Calandra applauded the city, and a number of other municipalities who received a reward today, for striving to get homes built.  The Building Faster Fund is a 3-year, $1.2-billion program, for municipalities to work at home building and infrastructure.
