Welland Native Nominated for Sound Mixing Oscar Award

He grew up in Welland, and now he's up for the best sound mixing Oscar.

David Giammarco has been nominated for his work as a sound engineer for Ford v Ferrari.

The movie stars Matt Damon and Christian Bale, playing car designer Carroll Shelby and driver Ken Miles.

It tells the story of how Shelby and Miles built for a Ford vehicle for the 24 Hours of Le Mans race in France back in 1966.

Giammarco's team recorded the sounds of real vintage cars for the film.

Giammarco also received Oscar nominations for his work on 3:10 to Yuma in 2008 and Moneyball in 2012.

The 2020 Oscar winners will be announced this Sunday night.
