Three Welland property owners receive over $26,000 in fines for violating Ontario's Fire Code.
Welland Fire & Emergency Services (WFES) has issued significant fines to three property owners violating the province's fire code.
The City says on June 24th, 2020, WFES were called to a residence on Prince Charles Drive.
Fire prevention staff discovered the building was being used as a rooming house, and the fire alarm system was found inoperable.
The corporate ownership was ordered to immediately repair the alarm system.
On September 13th, 2021, the ownership received a $6,500 fine after being convicted for failing to have a working fire alarm system.
On August 4th, 2020, the WFES discovered there were no working smoke or carbon monoxide alarms inside an Alberta Street dwelling.
Yesterday, the owners were convicted in provincial court on several offences, and a $10,000 fine was issued.
As well, the owners of a property on Townline Tunnel Road received a $10,000 fine in court yesterday.
On March 31st, 2021, Fire Prevention staff attended the property at the request of police, and discovered an illegal marijuana grow operation inside the residence.
