Welland Employees Part with Union

Workers with public works, including roads, parks, arenas, voting to part ways with UNIFOR membership

Some City of Welland employees have voted for change in how they are represented.

The Ontario Labour Relations Board has confirmed the majority of employees within the Infrastructure Services and Community Services groups no longer want to be represented by the union UNIFOR.

Also, as a result, the collective agreement that was in place is no longer, but the city says those staff members will stay on the job.

The workers who voted this way take care of public works, such as roads, water, sewer and fleet, as well as parks, cemeteries and arenas.

Chief Administrative Officer Rob Axiak says services will continue to run smoothly.
